Bunches is a family business, originally founded by my Dad Erik and Mum Sandra in 1989. Back then, Bunches was a small flower stall which my Mum and Dad had set up under a 3 metre by 4 metre umbrella in the Four Seasons shopping centre in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. My Dad used to get up at 4am to go and buy the flowers from the local flower market and in the holidays me and my brother would go with him; we thought that getting up so early and indulging on an early morning ‘bacon butty’ was the most exciting thing… how things have changed! My Mum would then make the flowers into bouquets in our garage, again I’d often help her out, wrapping the flowers in sleeves or tying ribbons… I say I helped, I was probably more of a hindrance looking back! From the little flower stall my Mum and Dad sold great quality bouquets, offering a service with a smile and the stall was a great success. In fact, it was so successful, that within just 16 weeks of trading my Dad had been made an offer to sell the business, which he decided to do.

UK Flower Delivery
Our flowers are delivered throughout the UK, mainly via our 800 strong network of highly skilled local florists. In the case of Value lines, or on the rare occasions your local florist is out of stock of your chosen bouquet, we send out flowers from our central floristry department via courier. Your flowers then arrive in a Flowers Direct branded gift box.
If you want flowers delivered by local florists – and no courier service – this is best achieved by purchasing from our Same Day Flower range. As long as you order each weekday by 3pm, or Saturdays by 12 noon, we can almost certainly get your flowers delivered anywhere in the UK that very same day. Many flower services who rely on courier services alone simply cannot offer such a fantastic and convenient service. So if you need your flowers fast, then you know where to come.

Ownership
After many years of independent ownership, on 24th May 2010 Flowers Direct’s website and trading assets were purchased by Flying Flowers (Jersey Limited), part of Flying Brands Limited – a multi brand and multi channel home shopping specialist. Founded in 1981, Flying Brands was admitted to the Official List of the London Stock Exchange in 1993.
Commenting on the acquisition, Stephen Cook, CEO of Flying Brands said, “We are delighted to have acquired the Flowers Direct business. The transaction will significantly strengthen our online business and will give us access to our own Relay Network of florists…the primary purpose of the acquisition is to provide a strong platform for future growth particularly in the online and relay markets.”
